I couldn't believe my luck the day little Lacey was born, nor could I help pulling out several books on Thoroughbred conformation in hopes to disprove what I found laying beside Dollar Bill Y'all in the bleak winter light. She was perfect. Flawless. A physical clone of her all-too-perfect mother, and yet I was still shocked. I'd expected color - when crossing to RoseHalo, color is what you get, after all - but Lacey soared above every expectation I'd dreamed up when initially going through with the breeding. I must have spent a week straight after her birth in that stall, sitting with my young girl, watching her sleep. And when those young legs unfurled and the unsteady wobble turned into a dainty step, feather-light, I watched like a proud mother hen clucking over her favorite chick. Throughout her first few months of life I prissed and preened and fawned over Lacey - and admittedly I still find myself fussing over her.

But it isn't her sheer perfection that makes Lacey lovable, oh no, it's her personality. Which is ironic, really, because I can't begin to tell you how many times I sulked over the purchase of Aelkaba, the serene beauty that she was. Lacey's "saving grace" is her adorable, mischievous sense of humor; a light nip on the hand, a brush of silk, and you're sure to find Lacey nearby, trying to to hide behind a flower pot or a small bush. Yes, Lacey doesn't seem to know her own size, not at all. At best she thinks she's a very large cat - and believe me when I say her attemps at purring are outright too-cute-for-words. Currently, we are showing Lacey exclusively on the halter circuit. However, the future holds great things for this inquisitive filly - with her elastic gaits and fancy good looks, coupled with great elevation of the front with lots of shoulder freedom she's going to be a contender once her time comes. For now she'll just be the clever, dimpled girl that she is, and we'll leave fame for another day.
